breathe life back into your democracy

How we work

  • Run Cant-idates to lose spectacularly in gerrymandered districts

  • Shine bright lights on power grabs

  • Advocate for your state's path to fair maps

  • Message in ways that make a difference

Losing well

Cant-idates have instant credibility with voters. Because Cant-idates aren't trying to win, folks assume they aren't lying to gain votes (because they aren't). That means Cant-idates can carry messages about democracy in a way that no one else can.

What we do

Train Cant-idates to be community messengers.

We don’t just toss people into unwinnable races and call it a day. We train our Cant-idates to be community messengers, equipping them with top-tier skills in:

  • Social media

  • Communications strategy

  • Messaging that resonates

Message innovation

Democratic messaging sucks. It's inauthentic and sounds like a mishmash of focus grouped words.  We continuously run message tests to identify:

  • what works

  • who it works for

  • what doesn't work (because pushing boundaries is where progress happens)

Why we're so great at losing

We have decades of experience in persuasive communication, cognitive psychology, marketing, field operations and fundraising.

There's no magic - just brains, science, and elbow grease.

Measurable change

We know we've lost well when we see:

  • Higher voter turnout.

  • More votes for statewide candidates.

  • Political messaging that works (and we can prove it).

  • A deep bench of experienced candidates for when we DO have fair maps.

The Washington Post article about Kate Barr running for NC District 37 Senate seat in a race too gerrymandered to win.

Losing isn’t just an outcome—it’s a strategy.

And it’s one that can change the game.
